In the 1970s, BAA gained control of Edinburgh Airport, with the first new terminal opened to the public in 1977 by the Queen. In fact, the current terminal was designed by Robert Matthew and built in 1977. Since then, the airport has continued to grow in the following decades, with a new parking area and a new arrivals hall. In 2012 Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) took over the property from BAA, bringing new routes, improved passenger facilities and a terminal expansion.
The airport offers all the necessary services for traveling passengers such as lounges (Plaza Premium, Aspire and British Airways lounges), food areas with bars, restaurants and shops, duty free for shopping at the airport.
