Milan Bergamo Airport reaches the milestone of 17 million passengers
The transit of the 17 millionth passenger of the year corresponds to the new all-time record for the airport
Monday 23 December marks a historic day for Milan Bergamo Airport, which celebrates the transit of its 17 millionth passenger of 2024. This result represents the culmination of an extraordinary year, characterized by an increase in the average load factor and the expansion of the network of destinations, which in the summer season reached 154 destinations in 42 countries.

A post-pandemic growth path
The milestone of 17 million passengers highlights the significant recovery path undertaken by the airport after the difficult two-year period 2020-2021 marked by the pandemic. Already in 2022 there had been a consistent recovery, which continued in 2023, the year in which traffic reached almost 16 million passengers. This success testifies not only to the quantitative recovery of air traffic, but also to a qualitative growth in the experience offered to travelers.
Awards and customer care
The excellence of Milan Bergamo Airport has been rewarded with the recognition of ACI World, which elected it the best airport in the category between 5 and 15 million passengers in both 2021 and 2022. In 2024, level 1 of certification for customer management also arrived, further consolidating the airport's role as a reference point for quality and innovation. Particular attention was also paid to passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), which grew by 21% compared to 2023, from 72,000 to 87,000 assisted with care and professionalism.

Strategic investments and sustainability
In parallel with the growth in traffic, SACBO has carried out the 2023-2027 business plan, with a total investment of 203 million euros entirely self-financed. A significant part of these funds has been allocated to projects aimed at sustainability, confirming the airport's commitment to a more responsible future and consolidating its strategic role in the air transport landscape.
The milestone of 17 million passengers is not just a figure, but a symbol of the success and resilience of Milan Bergamo Airport, which looks to the future with ambition and determination.

"We are proud to have reached and at this point exceeded the annual quota of 17 million passengers, said Giovanni Sanga, president of SACBO. A result that is the result of a broad vision and synergies, which reflect the ability to adapt infrastructures and services to the ever-changing operating scenario. A result obtained thanks to the contribution of the professionalism that at all levels, from the operator's employees to the State Bodies and the various operators, contribute to ensuring the efficiency and quality of the service that during 2024 have been recognized as being of the first level. The expansion of the passenger terminal with new areas dedicated to check-in and security checks will contribute to further raising quality and safety. At the same time, SACBO continues to pursue its goal of sustainable development, carrying out mitigation measures for the benefit of residents close to the port. At the same time, the activities relating to the epidemiological investigation, promoted by ATS in collaboration with the Bicocca University, are proceeding, which provides for the transition to the third phase in 2025 with the involvement of residents in the areas surrounding the airport. In addition, in harmony with the decarbonisation path defined by SACBO, 2025 will see the expansion of the fleet of electric vehicles serving passengers and aircraft, and the entry into operation of the photovoltaic field located in the remote car park and capable of supplying over 10% of the airport's annual electricity needs. A green contribution that is in addition to the 55% share from renewable sources provided by the national grid".
