Alitalia is the main Italian airline and flies to destinations in Italy and worldwide. Since 1947, Alitalia is the Italian flag carrier and represents the history of Italian air transport.
 
Alitalia is a member of the SkyTeam global alliance since 2001 together with the following airlines: Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, Tarom, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.

In addition, Alitalia has codeshare agreements with other airlines to expand its network with more destinations, further flights and timetables. The airlines that have codeshare agreements with Alitalia include: AirBaltic, Air Corsica, Air Serbia, Bulgaria Air, Croatia Airlines, Cyprus Airways, Ethiad, Jet Aiways, Luxair, Montenegro Airlines, Srilankan, Tap Portugal, Tarom.
 
The typical Italian comfort and elegance can be recognized on Alitalia aircraft with Ferragamo wellness products and menus served on intercontinental flights on Richard Ginori porcelain. On board it offers menus with regional recipes typical of Italian cuisine and with Italian wines.

Alitalia fleet
The fleet of the Alitalia Group has 4 types of new aircraft that allow lower fuel consumption and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. The airline has long-haul (Boeing 777-300 ER, Boeing 777-200 ER, Airbus A330-200), medium-haul (Airbus A321, Airbus A320, Airbus A319) and regional (Embraer 190 and Embraer 175) aircraft.
The Boeing 777 and Airbus A330s of the long-haul fleet have a configuration with three travel classes: Business, Premium Ecomony and Economy.
 
Alitalia has its headquarters in Rome and its main hub at Rome Fiumicino Airport.
 
On June 2020, Italian Prime Minister announced the new Alitalia, reorganized as Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana S.p.A.
