London Stansted Airport is a passenger airport with a single runway and used by major European low-cost airlines. It is located near Stansted Mountfitchet in the Utlesford district of the English county of Essex, approximately 30 miles from London.

Several airlines, particularly low-cost airlines, have their base at Stansted airport. It was built in 1942 by the US Army as a military base. After the war, in 1947, it was sold to the Ministry of Aviation and definitively to the British Airports Authority in 1966.
The terminal building was designed by Foster Associates and features a "floating" roof supported by an inverted pyramid lattice structure. London Stansted is the third busiest airport in London and serves around million passengers annually.

The Metrolink currently runs on six lines out of the city center to: Altrincham, Bury, Droylesden, East Didsbury, Eccles and Rochdale. Airport passengers can connect to Metrolink via rail services between the airport and Manchester Piccadilly and bus services (Arriva) 18 and 18A to Altrincham.
Close to the Terminal is the bus station for London, Cambridge and Oxford. Central London stops include: Liverpool Street, Victoria, Stratford and Baker Street. 'National Express' connects Heathrow and Stansted airports. Journey time is approximately 90 minutes. 'National Express' also operates a regular service between Luton Airport.
London Stansted Airport is located just off the M11 motorway. Follow junction 8a for London or junction 8 for Cambridge. Journey time about 40 minutes.
Taxis are available at national and international arrivals. A taxi to London city centre for 1-4 people costs around £ 99, depending on the destination.
