The Swiss Alps, a snowy world
Switzerland, in the heart of the Alps, captivates with its winter landscape, while harmoniously combining nature and tradition
For over a century Switzerland has been renowned as one of the world’s most celebrated winter destinations. The Swiss Alps are a genuine paradise for fairytale adventures on the snow, with over 7,000 km of runs for downhill skiing, 5,500 km of cross-country skiing trails, paths for snowshoes (2,300 km) and walking (5,150 km) of all difficulties, as well as 250 ski areas. The average altitude of the runs is greater compared to other Alpine destinations. Even the world’s longest run is Swiss: 25 km from the Kleine Matterhorn (3,883 m) to Zermatt (1,620 m) with a glimpse of the Cervino. The Bernhard-Russi descent, instead, above Andermatt, leads in just 8 km to the Gemsstock Glacier in the valley, and has a huge altitude difference of 1,500 metres. With four main peaks and 350 km of runs with guaranteed snow cover, 150 km of paths for excursions and 200 km of cross-country skiing runs, Engadin St. Moritz is one of Switzerland’s largest and most exciting resorts for winter holidays.
