Expansion works at Brindisi airport

New areas and a baggage handling system to provide a better airport experience as well as a safer and more efficient system
Salento airport is preparing to welcome important news thanks to the introduction of a new boarding area and the expansion of commercial spaces. This strategic project, an integral part of the Masterplan for the development of the airport infrastructure, involves the construction of a new two-storey building, located adjacent to the current terminal, near the security checks.

On the first floor of the new structure, new boarding areas will be built, as well as spaces dedicated to shopping and dining, to offer passengers a more comfortable and complete experience. On the ground floor, on the other hand, a modern baggage processing system will be installed, designed to improve the operational efficiency of the new tomographic machines already supplied to the airport. These advanced systems have been implemented in compliance with the latest European safety regulations, raising the quality standards of the service.

Thanks to this expansion and the introduction of the most modern technologies, the airport will be able to optimize baggage handling, moving from traditional X-ray equipment to the most innovative tomographic scanning systems. This will allow up to 1,800 bags to be processed per hour and up to eight flights to be handled simultaneously, ensuring a faster and more efficient workflow. The new baggage handling facility, equipped with multi-level analysis capabilities, will offer an even higher level of safety.

The infrastructure will be equipped with two standard level 3 tomographic machines, capable of operating simultaneously, and with a new X-ray machine for final checks of the last level. To complete the picture of security measures, the airport video surveillance system has been updated with the latest generation digital cameras, which replace the old analogue ones, significantly improving image quality and monitoring capacity.

These interventions at Brindisi airport represent an important step for the future of Salento airport, which aims to become a reference point for efficiency and safety, offering passengers an increasingly comfortable and safe travel experience.
