Traveler Choices and Technology Trends Transforming Global Tourism
In the travel industry, the desire to explore has not diminished, despite global economic challenges. According to Skyscanner's analysis, Millennials and Generation Z are among the main drivers of tourism spending, with emerging technology, such as artificial intelligence, playing a key role in creating more personalized experiences.
Traveling in 2025 will not only concern destinations, but also collective and responsible experiences, influenced by economic and environmental factors.
GROUP EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM
Travelers still consider tourism as a valuable investment, favoring experiences that connect them with others, nature and well-being. The future of travel is oriented towards experiential and shared tourism, where technology and sustainability create opportunities for unique and memorable experiences.
The 7 main trends are:
- Group sports experiences: trips to attend sporting events or play sports together, responding to the desire for dynamic and inclusive experiences.
- Shared well-being: wellness tourism takes on a social dimension, with retreats and regenerating activities to be experienced in groups.
- Immersive art: museums and exhibitions offer immersive installations, offering visitors shareable and memorable artistic experiences.
- Music events and festivals: trips to music festivals and concerts remain at the top, representing opportunities for collective and cultural celebration.
- Astronomy and space tourism: there is a growing interest in astronomy-related experiences, such as stargazing in natural environments.
- Group eco-trips: The return to nature, with activities such as sustainable hiking and camping, attracts more and more environmental lovers.
- Local gastronomy and collective dinners: cooking becomes a cultural experience, with local tours and dinners that promote social interaction.
TOURISM SPENDING TRENDS IN 2025
Skyscanner's 2025 spending trends report reveals that, despite inflation, global travelers do not intend to give up the quality and intensity of their tourism experiences. 70% of tourists plan to increase or keep their budget for flights and accommodations stable, with a significant push from Millennials and Gen Z, who are particularly interested in customizing their trips. Countries such as India and the United Arab Emirates emerge as pools of enthusiastic tourists, who see travel as an opportunity for personal and cultural enrichment.
These trends suggest a change of perspective: the travel experience becomes an "emotional investment" and culture, which favors targeted spending also for additional services. Travelers show a growing propensity towards upgrades, such as higher flight classes and quality accommodation or towards the purchase of insurance coverage, highlighting a more conscious approach aimed at ensuring comfort and safety. Experiential packages, such as sports, cultural and culinary activities, also enter the budget priorities of tourists, who want to make the most of each trip.
This context opens up new possibilities for the tourism and hospitality sector, pushing operators and destinations to reinvent themselves, offering increasingly tailor-made packages, both for individual travelers and families.
