Trieste among the 10 trendiest destinations of 2025
According to Booking.com the Italian port city is seeing an increase in international tourism and is preparing to become an unmissable destination
Trieste, the evocative port city steeped in history, has been included among the ten emerging destinations for 2025, selected by Booking.com, along with nine other international locations. The Friulian capital is thus preparing to conquer the hearts of many travelers.
In addition to being a popular destination for Italians, Trieste is attracting the interest of a growing number of international visitors. According to data released by Booking.com, the searches made by Australians for stays in this fascinating city have grown by 598% compared to last year.
The Julian city has seen searches for stays increase by 349%** in the last year. But it is not only Italians who are rediscovering this gem of the north-east: there is a growing interest from tourists from abroad. In particular, searches from neighboring Austria grew by 156%, followed by an increase of 144% from Germany. The data from Serbia (+1630%), Croatia (+1313%) and Australia (+598%) are also surprising.

Trieste, once a strategic and vital port worldwide, extends over a narrow strip of land overlooking the Adriatic Sea and borders Slovenia. This particular geographical position has profoundly influenced the city's culture and architecture, characterizing it with a unique mix of Italian, Slovenian and Austrian influences. Today, its varied landscape, which ranges from the rugged coastline to the rocks of the Karst, attracts more and more adventurous travellers, whose searches for stays have increased by 404%, followed by couples (+399%) and families (+269%).

In a time of rapid technological change and rising costs of living, travelers are looking for new ways to explore the world. Booking.com surveyed more than 27,000 travelers from 33 countries, identifying nine trends that will define the coming year. Among these, three are particularly significant for Italian travellers.*****

More and more travelers are choosing evening and night experiences for their vacations. 62% of Italians are considering destinations characterized by poorly lit skies, where it is possible to admire natural phenomena such as the Northern Lights. With its low light pollution and clear skies, Trieste lends itself perfectly to this trend.
