ITA Airways: plane + train ticket for travel between Italy and Spain
Integration between Frecciarossa and ITA Airways flights with connections from the Rome Fiumicino hub, via Madrid and Barcelona, to seven destinations in Spain such as Alicante, Cordoba, Malaga, Seville and Valencia
iryo, the first Spanish private high-speed operator owned by Trenitalia (FS Group) and ITA Airways have signed an innovative agreement to offer travelers a combined train + plane ticket, facilitating travel between Italy and Spain.
Passengers will be able to purchase a single ticket for intermodal travel, combining ITA Airways flights with iryo's Frecciarossa high-speed trains. In particular, ITA Airways customers will have the opportunity to reach destinations such as Alicante, Cordoba, Malaga, Seville and Valencia with the Frecciarossa, which are currently not served directly by the airline. Similarly, iryo travelers will be able to take advantage of connections with over 20 Italian airports, including those in the cities of Florence, Milan, Naples, Rome and Venice.
Sustainable and intermodal mobility
The integration between air and rail transport represents a strategic vision for the future of European mobility with an increasingly integrated, intermodal and sustainable transport system. The goal is to create a fluid network between major European cities, reducing environmental impact and improving the quality of life of travelers. FS's 2025-2029 Strategic Plan envisages significant growth in international business, with an estimated 40% increase in passenger volume. FS International will be the engine of this expansion, coordinating activities outside Italy with an already consolidated structure of 12,000 employees and a turnover of 3 billion euros.
ITA Airways combines its routes from Rome Fiumicino with destinations served by Frecciarossa trains in Spain. ITA Airways and iryo passengers will be able to use the services of both airlines with a single booking, benefiting from dedicated assistance in case of need.
Advantages of the combined plane + train ticket:
►A single booking for ITA Airways flights and Frecciarossa trains by iryo.
►Facilitated connections between airports and train stations at no extra cost.
►Dedicated assistance at ITA Airways Customer Information Assistance desks and at iryo stations.

iryo and ITA Airways
iryo, a high-speed rail operator born from the collaboration between Trenitalia, Air Nostrum and Globalvia, is the first private operator in Spain. Since the launch of the first Frecciarossa between Madrid and Barcelona in 2022, it has extended its network to cities such as Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Alicante and Albacete, carrying more than 13 million passengers.
ITA Airways, with a network of 55 destinations (15 intercontinental, 24 international and 16 domestic), offers 42 weekly frequencies (84 total flights) between Spain and Italy, connecting Madrid and Barcelona with Rome Fiumicino. From here, passengers can continue to major European and intercontinental destinations, including Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
