Dublin and Cork airports accelerate the green transition
DAA invests $400 million in 20 airport sustainability initiatives, ensuring more efficient and environmentally friendly operations
Dublin and Cork airport operator Daa has announced a strategic plan of 20 green projects, aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency, with the aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The initiative includes an investment of more than €400 million to make Ireland's airports among the most sustainable in Europe. Among the main measures:
► green airport fleet: transition from diesel to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and complete electrification of light vehicles by 2024.
► Renewable energy: Presentation of the project for a 1.8 million kWh solar park at Cork Airport.
► Sustainable mobility: expansion of parking spaces for electric vehicles and launch of a bike sharing service at Dublin Airport.
► Energy efficiency: upgrading LED lighting and improving ground support equipment (GSE).
► Water management: optimization of water reuse and technologies for early detection of leaks.
► Renewable energy: Presentation of the project for a 1.8 million kWh solar park at Cork Airport.
► Sustainable mobility: expansion of parking spaces for electric vehicles and launch of a bike sharing service at Dublin Airport.
► Energy efficiency: upgrading LED lighting and improving ground support equipment (GSE).
► Water management: optimization of water reuse and technologies for early detection of leaks.
Sustainability is at the heart of DAA's growth strategy which, with these projects, aims to improve Ireland's international connectivity, ensuring increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly operations. These innovative interventions strengthen DAA's commitment to the ecological transition, with concrete benefits for the environment and the aviation sector. The company has also received the Smarter Travel Mark from the National Transport Authority, recognition for organizations committed to sustainable mobility. With more than 35 million bus seats expected by 2025, DAA is reinforcing its commitment to a more sustainable future of air travel.
