Hydrogen production at Turin Airport
Sustainable innovation is the protagonist of Airport Day. The new smart grid pilot plant for the production of renewable energy is the first in Italy and among the first in the world in an airport
Today, Turin Airport celebrated Airport Day, a national event promoted by Assaeroporti and the associated airport management companies. The initiative, which involved 17 Italian airports and took place simultaneously in Rome, aimed to underline the crucial role of the airport system in the economic development and sustainable progress of the country.
Turin has chosen to focus on environmental sustainability, dividing the event into three distinct moments, each aimed at specific interlocutors. The day began with a presentation to the press and the airport community of the new smart grid pilot plant for hydrogen production, the first of its kind in Italy and among the first in the world in an airport. The presentation was followed by a visit to the plant, located at the Fire Brigade.
In the afternoon, the event was aimed at university students from the Polytechnic University of Turin and the University of Turin, engaged in degree courses on environmental sustainability. After a discussion on the topic, a visit to the smart grid plant and the photovoltaic system on the roof of the airport was organized.
Throughout the day, the airport also set up a stand in the boarding area, engaging in activities to raise awareness and involve passengers about future initiatives to offset CO2 emissions.
Andrea Andorno, CEO of Torino Airport, underlined: "The new smart grid plant for hydrogen production and the photovoltaic system on the roof of the airport are just the two most tangible projects of everything we have achieved so far and will help us achieve Net Zero by 2040".
