The "Aldo Moro" Park in Ciampino is enriched with 240 trees
ADR and Lagardère Travel Retail Italia present the planting project in the name of environmental sustainability
The planting project of the Aldo Moro Park in Ciampino has been inaugurated, an initiative promoted by Aeroporti di Roma and Lagardère Travel Retail, in collaboration with the Municipality of Ciampino and with the technical support of Etifor and the WOWnature program. The intervention led to the planting of 240 new trees, including holm oaks, red oaks, flowering plums, cedars of Lebanon, plane trees and cherry trees, with the aim of redeveloping the green area while respecting its historical and landscape identity. This project is part of the European "3billion trees" initiative, which aims to plant 3 billion trees by 2030. Etifor, technical partner, is the first Italian treeplanter to join this initiative.
This intervention is part of a broader strategy started in 2021 by Aeroporti di Roma and Lagardère Travel Retail Italia. The two companies, in addition to collaborating to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags in the shops of Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, have decided to invest in reforestation and environmental redevelopment projects. Among the recent initiatives, the redevelopment of the Tommaso Forti Park in Fiumicino, carried out last April, stands out. These interventions, agreed with the municipal administrations, aim to create accessible spaces for the community, enhance biodiversity and contribute to nature conservation.
Etifor, B Corp and spin-off of the University of Padua, played the role of technical partner of the project. The company specializes in the enhancement of natural heritage and the application of a scientific approach to environmental management, as demonstrated by its WOWnature program, dedicated to reforestation and the protection of wooded areas.
The benefits for the territory
This initiative brings numerous benefits to the local community and the environment, including: improving the quality of the urban environment; mitigation of the effects of summer warming; increase in biodiversity; creation of new recreational spaces and pedestrian paths for a step forward towards a sustainable future.
The inauguration, held on 21 November 2024, was attended by the Mayor of Ciampino Emanuela Colella, the Councillor for the Environment Federica Giglio, the Councillor for Education Roberto Mantua, Veronica Pamio, Senior Vice President for External Relations, Sustainability and Destination Management of Aeroporti di Roma, and Silvia Mazzuccato CSR, External Communication & Digital Marketing Director of Lagardère Travel Retail Italia, who illustrated how this initiative represents a concrete demonstration of the commitment of the two companies, in synergy with the local administration, on the environmental sustainability front and towards the territory and its citizens.
The reforestation project of the Aldo Moro Park represents a virtuous example of collaboration between the public and private sectors, demonstrating how joint commitment can generate concrete benefits for the environment and for future generations. Thanks to initiatives like this, Ciampino strengthens its role in promoting sustainable land management and fighting climate change.
