In the first half of 2024, air traffic in Italy increased by 12%
Over 100 million passengers in the 45 Italian airports open to commercial traffic
In the first half of 2024, ENAC recorded a significant increase in air traffic compared to the same period in 2023. The number of passengers marked an increase of +12%, while the cargo sector saw growth of +18%, exceeding the pre-Covid volumes of 2019. Below are the most significant data.
PASSENGERS
In the first six months of 2024, 100,136,127 passengers used scheduled and charter commercial flights at the 45 Italian airports open to commercial traffic, an increase of +12% compared to 2023. Air traffic in Italy reached 33.5 million passengers, marking an increase of +5% compared to the previous year, while international traffic grew by +16%, reaching 66.6 million passengers.
AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS
Total aircraft movements in the first six months of 2024 were 807,376, an increase of +9% compared to 2023 and +3% compared to 2019 (pre-Covid benchmark). The average share of passengers per flight also grew, from 114 in the first half of 2023 to 124 in 2024, an increase of about +8.8%.
FREIGHTER
In the cargo sector, 600,557 tons were handled in the first half of 2024, an increase of +18% compared to 2023. This increase was mainly driven by non-EU international routes, with strong growth in connections to Asia.
