Bologna is the first gluten-free Italian airport

Thanks to a project with AIC, AUSL Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna Region, the airport guarantees a safe gluten-free offer in all refreshment points
Bologna's Guglielmo Marconi Airport becomes the first airport in Italy to be entirely gluten-free, thanks to a collaboration with the Italian Celiac Association, the AUSL of Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna Region. All the food & beverage points at the airport are now certified to offer a safe and conscious gluten-free service, with adequately trained and continuously updated staff even for new hires and seasonal workers.

The "Celiac Project", developed to respond to the growing demand for safe nutrition by passengers with celiac disease – over 265,000 in Italy according to 2023 data – involved 90 catering operators (including Vecchia Malga, My Chef, Autogrill and Lagardère Travel Retail), trained on pathology, hygiene and the correct preparation of gluten-free products.

The initiative was also enthusiastically welcomed by AIC, which emphasizes how Bologna's Guglielmo Marconi Airport finally offers celiac travelers – Italians and foreigners – an inclusive and health-conscious experience.

Local institutions speak of a virtuous model of hospitality that strengthens the image of Bologna as a city attentive to well-being, inclusion and the quality of the tourist offer and services.
