EasyJet expands network in Italy
New routes that consolidate Italy as the second largest market and investments towards zero emissions
EasyJet outlined its strategies for 2025 during a press conference focused on operational growth and sustainability goals. The British airline, which ended 2024 with record numbers, announces the opening of new routes, the expansion of Italian bases and important steps towards decarbonization.
In 2024, easyJet carried 90 million passengers, operating over 1,100 routes in 35 countries with a fleet of 347 Airbus aircraft. Revenue reached £9.3 billion, driven by higher ticket sales and ancillary revenue. In Italy, the company celebrated its 100 millionth passenger at Milan-Malpensa and a 9% increase in capacity compared to 2023.
Italy is confirmed as a strategic market for EasyJet, which will become the second most important market after the United Kingdom. For 2025, the following are planned:
New bases at Milan Linate and Rome-Fiumicino: 5 aircraft will be based at Linate, with 21 operational routes (+145% compared to 2024), while Fiumicino will host 3 aircraft with a 35% increase in capacity. Malpensa remains the main Italian base with 22 aircraft and with the launch of new routes to Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Tbilisi.
EasyJet continues its commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions, focusing on:
- Fleet renewal: with the introduction of Airbus A320neo, which reduce emissions by 15%.
- Sustainable fuels (SAF): purchase of 110 tonnes for routes in Norway, thanks to the collaboration with SEA.
- Pilot projects: participation in the SAVES programme for the use of hydrogen in the airports of the future.
The goal is to reduce emissions by 35% by 2035, in line with the NetZero roadmap.
In addition to the launch of the new routes from Milan Linate and the new routes from Rome Fiumicino, easyjet further strengthens its presence in Italy with new routes from Milan Malpensa, including: Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Paris Orly, and Evenes-Lofoten (seasonal). In addition, flights will be launched from Palermo to Bristol and from Lamezia Terme to Nice. While no summer 2025 flights will be operated from the airports of Milan, Bergamo and Bologna.
