Christmas in Val Gardena

During the Christmas period, Val Gardena is transformed into a real Christmas Valley, offering an enchanted atmosphere in the mountains of the Dolomites. Here there are two different but equally fascinating markets: Ortisei, with its "Christmas Village", and Selva, which hosts the evocative "Mountain Christmas".

 

 

The market in Ortisei, known as the Christmas Village, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. From 5 December 2024 to 5 January 2025, the heart of Val Gardena will be transformed into a picturesque fairytale village, where the winter atmosphere will enchant visitors. Here you can find original gifts, typical sweets, traditional South Tyrolean hot dishes, as well as fine liqueurs and local wines. The Lodenlounges, cozy gastronomic houses, will offer moments of relaxation and tasting immersed in a romantic Christmas atmosphere.

 

 

The Ortisei market is not only a space for Christmas shopping, but also a place to experience the local culture. Elegant stands, concerts and shows will enliven the town, with performances by local musicians and groups that will give life to a magical experience. Opening hours vary: Monday to Friday from 16:00 to 19:00 and on weekends from 11:00 to 19:00.

 

 

A few kilometers from Ortisei, Selva represents the perfect combination of Christmas spirit and love for the mountains. Mountain Christmas, open from December 6, 2024 to January 5, 2025, offers a long illuminated walkway of over 350 meters, decorated with small wooden cable car cabins, which recall the country's deep connection with winter sports. Here too, among food stands and handicrafts, you can enjoy an aromatic mulled wine or a Christmas cake, immersed in a unique atmosphere.

 

 

Among the dates not to be missed, the evening of December 5 stands out, when the traditional parade of St. Nicholas and the terrifying Krampus, demonic figures that according to legend accompany the saint, will be held in the streets of Ortisei and Selva. While St. Nicholas rewards good children with small gifts, the Krampus scare the naughtiest ones with screams and noises, carrying on a tradition that combines folklore and magic.

 

Val Gardena, the heart of the Dolomites and part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, represents the essence of these extraordinary mountains. Located in South Tyrol, it offers unforgettable experiences in every season, revealing all the unique charm of this Ladin territory. In spring, the valley is filled with breathtaking contrasts, while in early summer the pastures are transformed into a riot of colour thanks to its extraordinary alpine flora. It is a true paradise for hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, who find here an ideal place for their adventures. With the arrival of autumn, the "Burning Dolomites" offer mountain landscapes on fire with incredible hues, creating mystical days. And in December, Val Gardena is transformed into the realm of winter sports, offering a unique experience on its snow-covered slopes.
