Felice Casorati at the Royal Palace in Milan

A major retrospective celebrates the artist symbol of the Italian twentieth century, from 15 February to 29 June 2025
After 36 years, Felice Casorati returns to Milan with one of the largest retrospectives ever dedicated to the artist, hosted by the Palazzo Reale from February 15 to June 29, 2025. The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Milan-Culture and produced by Palazzo Reale and Marsilio Arte, explores Casorati's artistic and human journey through over one hundred works that tell his unique poetics.

Curated by Giorgina Bertolino, Fernando Mazzocca and Francesco Poli, the exhibition chronologically traces the artist's entire career, from the symbolist beginnings to the masterpieces of magical realism, up to the most mature works of the fifties.
Among the highlights of the exhibition, the famous paintings of the cycle of the Great Temperas (1918-1920) and an ideal triptych that brings together, for the first time since 1964, three masterpieces: A Woman, a Man and a Child, from the GAM in Turin and from private collections.

There is no shortage of moments dedicated to the link between Casorati and Milan, a city that played a crucial role in its artistic affirmation thanks to the modern system of exhibitions and art markets developed in the twenties.
The retrospective also explores Casorati's love of theatre and music, documenting his work for the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he designed sets and sketches that betray his mastery of creating suspended atmospheres full of pathos.

The rooms of Palazzo Reale offer a perfect setting to immerse yourself in the silent and reflective poetics of the artist. The curators underline how the spaces help to recreate the sense of emptiness and contemplation that emanate from Casorati's works, enhancing their intimate and universal dimension.
