New Year's Eve in Dublin

Dublin celebrates New Year's Eve with a three-day festival and performances greeting the new year with Dublin's New Year Festival, an unmissable event that from December 30, 2024 to January 1, 2025 brings a riot of lights, music and street performances to the Irish capital. For the first time, the festival also extends to the picturesque seaside villages of Howth and Dún Laoghaire, which are easily accessible from the city centre by public transport, adding a unique and intimate atmosphere to the capital's traditional festive spirit.

 

 

The festival promises to be the party of the year, with a calendar of events that caters to young and old alike. On December 30, the celebration kicks off with a large parade through the streets of the city, animated by street performers and dancers. The hub of activities is Dublin Castle, where families can participate in special events such as street performances, face painting, and other engaging activities. The day culminates with a live concert featuring leading artists from the Irish music scene, such as Cormac Begley and Niamh Regan, between tradition and modernity.

 

 

On 31 December, Dublin Castle is the protagonist of the midnight concert, with Cian Ducrot as the headliner. The Irish artist, fresh from the success of his debut album Victory, closes an extraordinary year with an exciting show. Accompanying him, an exceptional lineup: Aby Coulibaly, who opened Coldplay's concerts; the young web phenomena Kabin Crew & Lisdoonvarna Crew; and promising singer-songwriter Saibh Skelly. Even the little ones have their special moment with an early mini New Year's Eve, complete with a countdown, to let children experience the magic of the celebration as well.

 

 

The welcome to 2025 is illuminated by spectacular fireworks and laser games that will light up the Dublin sky. New this year, the coastal villages of Howth and Dún Laoghaire host their fireworks displays at 20.00, accompanied by live music, DJ sets, street performances and gastronomic corners with hot drinks and local delicacies. Located along the Dublin Coastal Trail, these locations offer a tranquil alternative to the bustling city centre and a great opportunity to explore the beautiful Dublin Bay.

 

 

Music remains the beating heart of the festival on 1 January, with a free concert of traditional Irish music at Meeting House Square in the Temple Bar district. Among the protagonists, John Francis Flynn, who enchants the audience with an engaging performance to start the new year in the name of Irish cultural authenticity.

 

During the three days, you will immerse yourself in Dublin's vibrant music scene through a dedicated route through the capital's clubs and pubs, where there will be traditional music performances and live performances. Once the festival is over, it's worth spending a few days at the city's top attractions, such as the famous Guinness Storehouse, the EPIC Irish Emigration Museum and the magnificent Book of Kells, housed at Trinity College. An excellent opportunity to discover the Emerald Isle in winter with its capital and the Dublin Coastal Trail.
