Wizz Air promotes gender equality
Wizz Air, the most environmentally sustainable airline, is celebrating International Women's Day with a series of special flights operated exclusively by female crews in its main markets, including Italy, on 7 and 8 March.
For the occasion, an all-female flight took off from Rome Fiumicino airport to Alicante, piloted by commander Sara and first officer Anna Paola, with a team of flight attendants made up of Gabriela Emilova, Vanessa, Alexandra, Mariarosa and Giuditta, committed to ensuring safety and comfort for passengers.
The initiative, active since 2022, aims to raise awareness of the importance of gender diversity in the aviation sector and to promote greater access for women to leadership roles. Currently, more than 5% of Wizz Air's pilots are women, one of the highest percentages in the industry, with the aim of reaching 7% by 2030.
Through dedicated programmes such as 'She Can Fly', which offers incentives to future female pilots, and 'Cabin Crew to Pilot', aimed at fostering domestic growth, Wizz Air is helping to reduce the gender gap in aviation. In addition, the company aims to have at least 40% women in leadership roles by 2026, confirming its commitment to a more equitable and inclusive industry.
Yvonne Moynihan, Corporate & ESG Officer at Wizz Air, said: "We are proud to support women in the aviation industry. Our commitment is not limited to the celebration of March 8th, but translates into concrete actions that offer real opportunities for growth and career. We firmly believe that gender equality is a core value to build the future of aviation."
