Expansion of the terminal at Rovaniemi Airport
Rovaniemi is preparing to welcome more and more travelers. Finavia has announced a new investment of 3 million euros to expand the passenger terminal of the airport of the Lappish capital, one of the busiest airports in Finland. The intervention, which will be completed by the 2025-2026 winter season, aims to improve the passenger experience in view of a constantly growing tourist demand.
In 2024, Rovaniemi Airport recorded a 29% increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous year, reaching a record 948,000 travelers, mostly international. Numbers that confirm the attractiveness of Lapland globally, fueling the interest of numerous airlines and prompting Finavia to invest in responding with adequate infrastructure.
The expansion works, starting in April 2025, will be completed by November of the same year. The new structure (located in front of the current terminal) will expand the departures area by almost 1,000 square meters. During the works, the access road will be temporarily modified, but without impact on flight operations.
With more than €100 million invested in Lapland over the last decade, Finavia continues to strengthen the strategic role of airports in the North, ensuring sustainability and accessibility. Since 2024, Lapland's airports have achieved net-zero emissions and obtained Visit Finland's sustainable travel certification, confirming the company's commitment to responsible tourism development.
