New security area at Bologna Airport
Bologna Marconi Airport has inaugurated the new Security Controls Area on the first floor of the Passenger Terminal, following a major expansion and modernisation project. The project, launched about a year ago, involved the gradual replacement of the existing X-ray machines with eight new C3 units, equipped with three-dimensional scanning and integrated with automatic tray transport lines.
The intervention led to an expansion of the queuing area by about 100 square meters and an overall redevelopment of the rooms with an additional 300 square meters of renovated surface, including flooring, false ceilings and lighting systems, to offer greater comfort to passengers and operators.
The new C3 X-ray machines represent a significant technological leap: they allow the control of hand luggage without having to remove electronic devices, reducing waiting times and improving the fluidity of the boarding process. The new automatic lines for trays, supplied by Cassioli, also ensure a greater volume of passengers processed per hour and a better quality of the airport experience.
The Bologna Airport project required a total investment of 8.5 million euros and involved several specialized companies: Smiths Detection for X-ray machines, Cassioli for automated lines, One Works and Sinergo for design and construction management, Progetto04 for safety coordination and Flooring dei Fratelli Messina for civil and plant works.
