"Panorama" exhibition by Giovanni Frangi at Malpensa
Free admission from February to April 2025 at the Porta di Milano at Terminal 1 of the airport
On February 12, 2025, one of the most evocative and evocative exhibitions of the "Orizzonte degli Eventi" initiative was inaugurated, curated by Matteo Pacini, with the artist Giovanni Frangi as the protagonist of an exhibition that captures the immensity and transience of the sky. "Panorama" is the title of the new stage of this exhibition cycle, which transforms Milan Malpensa Airport into a stage of reflection and beauty, thanks to Frangi's extraordinary interpretation of nature.

A sky in transformation: Giovanni Frangi's interpretation
After previous exhibitions that have explored equally evocative themes (from Fabio Viale's tattooed marbles to Matteo Mezzadri's futuristic visions of cities) "Panorama" brings the sky as the absolute protagonist. Giovanni Frangi, through rapid brushstrokes and a refined chromatic intensity, transforms the sky into a symbolic space, which goes beyond pure visual representation. The sky, by its nature changeable, becomes the metaphor of a constantly changing world, where light and darkness alternate in an incessant dialogue.
Frangi does not limit himself to painting the sky: every cloud, every glimpse of light becomes a reflection on emotionality and the passage of time. With his mastery, the artist invites the viewer to experience the sky as a mirror of the human soul, where the constant tension between shadow and light translates into a meditative and sensory experience.

The Gate of Milan: a Crossroads between art and travel
The exhibition is part of the symbolic setting of the Porta di Milano, the beating and architectural heart of Milan Malpensa airport, a place that becomes suspended between space and time. Here, art and architecture merge, giving life to a "space-time tunnel" that transports travelers to a parallel dimension, a bit like crossing the event horizon of a black hole. Matteo Pacini, curator of the project, emphasizes how each exhibition in this cycle stimulates reflection on our relationship with nature. With "Panorama", the message is clear: the sky is not just a physical space, but an invitation to stop and reflect on our connection with the world around us.

A dialogue with the masters of painting
Giovanni Frangi's work is not only a reworking of nature, but a dialogue with the great masters of painting. From the brightness of the skies of Tiepolo and Veronese, through the intimacy of Constable's landscapes, to the emotional nuances of Rothko and Nolde, Frangi reinterprets tradition to give life to a contemporary and personal narrative. The sky becomes an inner landscape in which color does not only describe atmospheric phenomena, but tells of the struggle between darkness and light, hope and difficulty.
Giovanni Frangi, Giovanni Testori's nephew, thus continues a tradition that sees nature as a key to interpreting the world. Its skies, full of gray, blue and white tones, not only reproduce the sky, but transform it into a place of deep reflection, where time seems to stop for an instant.
A sensory experience between art and architecture
In addition to the six large canvases that make up the cycle of the skies, the exhibition presents two unpublished works that enrich the exhibition project. The first, "Gotthard Pass", is a digital graphic project inspired by original photographs depicting the Gotthard Pass, a mountain scenery that accompanies travelers along the access tunnels to the Porta di Milano, integrating harmoniously into the architecture of the airport. The second project, "Soleil levant", is a video installation that captures the Milanese sunrise in an eternal transformation of colors and shapes, a tribute to slowness in a world that runs too fast.

At Malpensa, the inauguration was attended by personalities such as Alessandro Fidato, Chief Operating Officer of SEA Aeroporti di Milano, and Francesca Caruso, Councillor for Culture of the Lombardy Region. Together with curator Matteo Pacini and artist Giovanni Frangi, they kicked off this exhibition that invites visitors to rediscover the beauty of the sky, too often forgotten in the daily frenzy.
