The new cycle path of Fiumicino Airport

"Pedalaria", for pedestrians and cyclists, starts from the main Roman airport and extends along 3.5 kilometers, to join, in viale del Lago di Traiano, the existing cycle path in the airport town
Aeroporti di Roma today inaugurated "Pedalaria", a new cycle path that connects Leonardo da Vinci international airport with the city of Fiumicino. The work, financed by Aeroporti di Roma with an investment of 1.8 million euros, is part of the projects of the "Prime Ministerial Decree Jubilee 2025", aimed at improving infrastructure for sustainable mobility.

The cycle path, designed for pedestrians and cyclists, winds for 3.5 kilometers, starting directly from the main Roman airport and joining, at the height of Viale del Lago di Traiano, the existing cycle network of Fiumicino. This new route offers citizens, airport workers and travelers an evocative and sustainable way to explore the area, among natural landscapes and unique archaeological sites such as the Imperial Ports of Claudius and Trajan, symbols of Roman history.

"Pedalaria" represents a further commitment by Aeroporti di Roma towards sustainability, promoting infrastructures with low environmental impact. The cycle path is built with draining materials such as "Idrodrain" cement and recycled wood, designed to reduce the ecological impact, as well as providing Rain Garden and drainage channels for rainwater management. Along the last stretch towards Terminal 3 of Rome Fiumicino airport, Mediterranean plant species from five continents have also been planted, selected to respect their natural life cycle.

The infrastructure promotes sustainable mobility, facilitating environmentally friendly travel between the city and the airport. Thanks to its evocative route through archaeological and natural sites of rare beauty, "Pedalaria" becomes a strategic resource not only for the Fiumicino area but also for the thousands of passengers and workers who pass through the airport every day.

"The sustainable mobility that ENAC is carrying out to connect airports to the territories – said ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma – is an issue of social relevance that has as its ultimate goal to enhance the positive impacts generated by airports on the surrounding areas, on people and on society, to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life". While, Marco Troncone , CEO of ADR said: "With the creation of 'Pedalaria' we strengthen our commitment to the promotion of soft, sustainable and functional mobility for thousands of passengers and citizens, as well as the many workers residing near the airport. This new infrastructure represents a further demonstration of our commitment to invest in the sustainable development of our 5-star airport, for the benefit of the environment, the people who live in our airport and the territory that hosts us".
