Attractive seaside town with a wealth of historical evidence
When we talk about Rimini we think of its long equipped beaches, its sea, the lively nightlife that animates it during the summer months; but this city, overlooking the Adriatic coast of southern Romagna and surrounded by the peaks of the Apennines, is not only a holiday destination, because it preserves within its walls a past rich in history, 2000 years old, of which important signs have remained: from the Roman period, from the Middle Ages, ending with those of the Malatesta Lordship who dominated it with great political balance and artistic sense.

The Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge date back to the Roman period, symbols still included in the city coat of arms as well as the interesting 'Surgeon's Domus', an exceptional medical surgical kit of the Roman age, unique in its kind. And in its historical path, from the medieval period are the central Piazza Cavour with the Palazzo dell'Arengo and the Palazzo del Podestà, close and connected to each other, with the characteristic battlements that surmount them and the pointed arches.

Of the magnificence of the Signoria still remains in all its majesty that Renaissance jewel that is the Malatesta Temple, designed by Leon Battista Alberti, one of the most famous architects of the Renaissance, a Temple that today has risen to the importance of the Cathedral of the city of Rimini.

The friendliness and hospitality of its inhabitants are proverbial, as famous and attractive are the hundreds of cheerful bathing establishments, its 1000 comfortable hotels; in one of these, at the Grand Hotel, Federico Fellini used to stay, the great director native of the city who on various occasions showed in his films and whom Rimini wanted to honor with recurring exhibitions and the creation of the Federico Fellini Museum.

The Marina di Rimini is one of the most beautiful and avant-garde marinas in the entire Mediterranean, capable of hosting thousands of boats of all sizes and dominated by an elevated promenade over the sea 1300 meters long, a sort of belvedere, which has the Fish Market nearby, considered the largest and most well-stocked fish market in Emilia Romagna with more than 60 stalls of fresh fish at zero kilometer.
Rimini also attracts for its spas, which are always crowded because they are renowned for a perfect 'remise en forme' (the Riminiterme establishment where thalassotherapy is practiced is very popular) in a serene environment. The city is also very active from a commercial point of view: the Rimini Fair is one of the largest exhibition centers in Italy, and hosts various events ranging from 'food and beverage' to pastry, from technology to tourism in which operators from all over the world participate.

A symbol of local cuisine and famous all over the world is the piadina romagnola, a sort of crepe that is filled with ham and stracchino in the classic variant or stewed vegetables, sausages or minced meat, to be accompanied with excellent local wines among which Lambrusco, the local red sparkling wine, excels, as well as Sangiovese and Trebbiano di Romagna.

MALATESTIAN TEMPLE
So named in memory of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta who wanted to make it a sepulchre temple to house the tombs of his family. Today it is the city's cathedral, dedicated to Santa Colomba, and the largest place of worship in Rimini. The external marble architecture bears the signature of Leon Battista Alberti, while inside you can admire the valuable frescoes by Piero della Francesca, Giotto and marble sculptures of pagan inspiration by Agostino Di Duccio.
CHURCH OF SANT'AGOSTINO
The church, dedicated in the past to St. John the Evangelist, is now one of the largest and most important in the city, for its imposing architecture, in Rimini Gothic, with its soaring bell tower and above all for the valuable frescoes of the Rimini school that recall the Byzantine style, with rich and shining colors, considered by some experts to be on a par with those.

MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF RIMINI
Housed in the eighteenth-century Jesuit College, it contains civic memories starting from the sixteenth century. Among the works, canvases by important Renaissance artists: Giovanni Bellini, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Agostino di Duccio, Pisanello... In the archaeological section, the Surgeon's Domus is interesting, a Roman domus of the second century B.C. that presents 150 surgical instruments of the landlord, a military doctor, Eutychos, who used these instruments above all to treat wounds in battle.

Located in the eighteenth-century Villa Alvarado in Covignano, originally born as the Jesuit College, this unique Museum of Looks in Rimini wants to emphasize the personal vision, in the present age and in those of the past, of worlds and societies different and far from ours, such as African and Asian culture, as well as on new and unusual, if not breaking, art forms also of our world.

ITALY IN MINIATURE
The theme park, spread over an area of 85000 square meters in the Viserbella district, is dedicated to the historical, architectural and cultural heritage of the peninsula, with 270 miniature reproductions of churches, palaces, squares, immersed in a natural landscape of 5000 trees, also in miniature. Opened in 1970, it is still one of the area's biggest attractions for young and old.

FIABILANDIA
Located in the Rimini hamlet of Rivazzurra, it is one of the oldest amusement parks in Italy, inaugurated in 1966. In a vast area of 85000 sqm. it is spread over three main thematic areas: medieval, with the evocative Castle of Merlin the Wizard, oriental with the Fu-ming labyrinth and western, the most complete and vast, with the saloons and the most famous characters who animated this historical phase, and a fort, all faithfully reproduced.

SANTARCANGELO DI ROMAGNA
A medieval village always about 10 km away. from Rimini it rises on Mount Giove: small alleys, craft shops, taverns and typical restaurants full of warmth characterize it. The Malatesta Fortress , the symbol of the town, is interesting, where the love story of Paolo and Francesca sung by Dante is said to have taken place, as suggestive are the underground tuff caves, almost a city below the city, partly visitable and artistically built. The Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo is evocative and the unique and richest in the world is the Museum of the button, with about 8500 specimens from every era and country.

SAN MARINO
No more than 10 km from Rimini, the oldest Republic in the world still exists, the Republic of San Marino, stands on Mount Titano, with its narrow streets, its suggestive towers, the Town Hall of San Marino in Piazza della Libertà where it is possible to watch the changing of the guard in summer showing off the dazzling uniforms. The city also attracts for its events that date back to the past, such as the Palio delle Balestre, held on September 3rd and for its rich and articulated Museum of San Marino, interesting above all for the archaeological section.
