5 million passengers at Cagliari Airport

Today is a memorable day for Cagliari Airport, which achieves an unprecedented result: 5 million passengers transited since the beginning of the year, surpassing all previous records. This milestone is celebrated two weeks ahead of the end of 2024, thanks to the strong contribution of the international segment, which recorded a growth of 10% compared to last year. In 2023, the total number of passengers was 4.8 million, confirming the airport's steady expansion.

 

To celebrate the event, Cagliari Airport organized a real party at the Departures hall. The protagonist of the day was little Gioele Mura, 4 years old, five millionth passenger, awarded with round-trip plane tickets to New York offered by the Italian company Neos. Gioele, affectionately nicknamed "Spidy", was traveling with his parents Chiara and Danilo, originally from Alghero, who said they were surprised and grateful for the unexpected award. To add joy to the event, five other passengers were also rewarded with travel vouchers offered by the Aeroitalia company.

 

The celebration was not limited to the travel prizes: to make the day even more special, SOGAER, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce of the Sardinia Region, donated to the Mura family and other lucky passengers a selection of Sardinian artistic handicrafts from the ISOLA boutique in Cagliari airport.

 

The President of SOGAER, Monica Pilloni, underlined the importance of the result achieved by looking to the future with the awareness that the expected traffic growth will require investments and structural adjustments, to consolidate the strategic role of regional infrastructures in an increasingly competitive and global context. While the CEO, Fabio Mereu, recalled the progress of recent years, underlining that growth is driven by innovation and a constant commitment to environmental and social issues, values that represent the airport of the future.

 

The important result achieved by Cagliari Airport testifies to its crucial role for mobility and economic development in Sardinia. With a constant increase in passengers and a focus on innovation, sustainability and quality of service, Cagliari airport is confirmed as one of the most dynamic and strategic airport infrastructures at national level.

 

The day of celebration was also an opportunity to strengthen the link between the airport, the institutions and the territory.
