"Literary totems and podcasts" at Falcone Borsellino airport
A new cultural project for passengers in transit that offers unpublished stories and podcasts by Sicilian authors
The "Falcone Borsellino" International Airport of Palermo has launched an innovative cultural service dedicated to passengers in transit. The project, entitled "Literary Totems and Podcasts", allows passengers to download unpublished stories and podcasts by Sicilian authors directly to their mobile devices for free, to read or listen to while waiting or traveling.
The initiative was born with the aim of transforming the airport into a meeting space between culture and travel. Collaborating with Sicilian writers and journalists, the content offered ranges from contemporary fiction to themes of historical interest. Just scan a QR code on the totems located in the departures area to access multimedia materials for free. Each totem also includes a photo and a short biography of the author.
Salvatore Burrafato, president of Gesap, the company that manages the airport, commented: "This project aims to enrich the experience of travellers, offering them a cultural break that allows them to discover exclusive stories and content. The Sicilian authors involved have created unpublished materials just for passengers in transit, making this cultural initiative a real discovery for anyone passing through Palermo."
Among the protagonists of this first edition are three well-known Sicilian authors:
- Alessia Franco, who proposes the story "The island of hollow trees", a journey into the world of contemporary fairy tales;
- Gery Palazzotto, author of the podcast "Materia prima - la morte dimenticata di Libero Grassi", which deals with issues of great social importance;
- Salvo Toscano, with the story "True colors", a modern and compelling narrative.
The initiative aims not only to offer quality content, but also to make the talent of local writers known through an innovative format that combines literature and technology, making Palermo airport a real cultural reference point.
