A very useful and convenient way of seeing London is to purchase London Pass, a card allowing access to most of the main attractions including the St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, the River Boat Cruise on the Thames and Windsor Castle and four UNESCO world heritage sites: Tower of London, Maritime Greenwich, Westminster Palace and Abbey (including St Margaret’s Church) and Kew’s Royal Botanic Gardens

The Tate Modern, with its minimalist architecture and spectacular view over the river, is the world’s most visited modern art galley. London offers hundreds of museums to choose from. Entrance is free to many museums including the British Museum with the imposing stairway in the Great Court, the National Gallery, the Design Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum with its dinosaurs.

Buckingham Palace, official London residence of the British royal family since 1837 with 775 rooms, 19 of which make up the Queen’s apartment overlooking Green Park, is open to the public: the State Rooms, decorated with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection - including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Van Dyck - are open during the summer and the Queen’s Gallery and the Royal Mews all year round. The Palace forecourt is used for the Changing of the Guard, a major tourist attraction. The enchanting eight Royal Parks are also not to be missed. The “Memorial Walk” dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales, is a 11 km route passing through St James’s Park, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Or you can visit one of London’s peaceful outdoor places such as Kew, the Royal Botanical Gardens o the Chelsea Physic Garden.
 
The city is divided into several neighborhoods that have a unique atmosphere Hampstead, Greenwich, Barnes, Highgate, Wimbledon and Richmond are full of beautiful homes, boutiques and restaurants. While the more alternative areas like Brixton and Dalston are characterized by a stimulating culture and a trendy music scene. London offers many different places with live music of every type ranging from opera to Brit pop, and also holds the world’s most important classical music festival, the Proms, every summer at the Royal Albert Hall.

Shopping enthusiasts can choose between flagship stores in Oxford Street or famous designer stores in Bond Street and Myfair that is London’s most exclusive shopping area, trendy and eclectic shops in King’s Road or the markets of Camden Street, Notting Hill and Brick Lane but also the shopping centres Westfield London, Westfield Stratford City and in Canary Wharf or the iconic departement store such as Harrods, Liberty and Selfridges. For books lovers, London offers many bookshops and over three hundred public libraries including the British Library, wich holds the Magna Carta. And lastly, two must-do experiences are a trip on the London Eye, the tallest and ultra-modern observation wheel in Europe with breathtaking view from 135 meters high, and tea at the Ritz or Fortnum & Mason, two true London institutions.

TRAFALGAR SQUARE

Trafalgar Square is a must-see for visitors to London for the cultural events, shows, exhibitions and other unusual activities it holds. The square is home to Nelson’s Column and the famous stone lions. Trafalgar Square is named after Britain’s victory in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It is located in Westminster, in the city centre. It’s surrounded by St Martins-in-the-Fields Church and The Strand to the east; Admiralty Arch and The Mall to the south west; Whitehall to the south and the National Gallery to the north.

BUCKINGAM PALACE

Buckingam Palace, the residence of the British Royal Family, is one of the few royal palaces left in the world. During summer, visitors can visit 19 State Rooms, out of a total of 600, in the heart of the palace. All rooms are decorated with some of the greatest treasures of the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto, Van Dyck and sculptures by Canova. Outside Buckingham Palace you can see the magnificent exterior of the palace and the famous Changing the Guard ceremony.

WESTMINSTER PALACE AND BIG BEN

The Westminster Palace, known also as the Houses of Parliament, is the building where the two Parliament houses conduct their sessions. Initially used as a royal residence and built in Gothic style, it consists of almost 1,000 rooms. Alongside is the famous clock that has marked time in London since the middle of the nineteenth century. The clock tower, 96 meters high, is fabulous also at night with the four clock faces illuminated.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY

This predominantly Gothic style church is the site of coronations and burials of British monarchs. With a length of 156 metres and a width of 34, the central nave of Westminster Abbey is the longest in Great Britain.

The tombs of important English writers and poets such as Shakespeare and Dickens can be found inside.

TOWER BRIDGE AND THE TOWER OF LONDON

This characteristic bridge of London opens to allow the passing of large ships. Inside it houses the Tower Bridge Museum which tells the story of the bridge. It was opened on 30 June 1894 by the Prince and Princess of Wales (the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra). When you visit the Tower Bridge, experience the glass floor to see a view above the River Thames. Not far away is the Tower of London, a solid construction fortified and built by the Normans.

PICCADILLY CIRCUS

Known as “the navel of the world”, Piccadilly Circus is the most important meeting place in the city. Here two attractions can be found: the Trocadero, a large shopping centre, and Rock Circus dedicated to the history of pop and rock music. The square is dominated from above by the famous statue known as the Fountain of Eros, which is reality represents the Angel of Christian CharityPiccadilly is a perfetc place to experience London’s West End, to shop, dine or stay.

BRITISH MUSEUM
The British Museum exhibits works from all over the world, from prehistory to the present day. Among the most famous works: Stele di Rosetta, the sculptures of the Parthenon and the mummies of the collection on ancient Egypt. Free entry.

The Museum of Design in London is the most important museum in the world dedicated to contemporary design in all its forms: from furniture to graphics, from architecture to industrial design.

NATIONAL GALLERY
The National Gallery houses numerous paintings from western Europe from approximately 1250 to 1900. Important works include paintings by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Renoir, Cezanne and Van GoghInside offers a restaurant, café, bar and a shopping area with exclusive gift, books and prints. It is located in Trafalgar Square and the entrance is free. There are also many temporary exhibitions and guided tours for both children and adults.

TATE MODERN
No visit to London is complete without seeing the Tate. The British National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art from all over the world is located in the former Bankside power station on the banks of the River Thames. It houses works by Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Dalì and Bourgeois.
